It will highlight the diversity of styles, media and techniques in the collection.  Summerville is one of nine Georgia communities selected to host the exhibit. It is intended to serve as a springboard for additional arts and culture activities that serve to celebrate and increase awareness of local cultural communities and increase tourism.

Exhibit Details:

In an effort to inspire and inform Georgia residents about the power, purpose and necessity of art, 28 of the most significant pieces from the expansive 600+ piece state collection have been selected to represent and celebrate the long history of art and culture in Georgia. Included in the exhibit will be original works by renowned Georgia artists such as Benny Andrews, Lucinda Bunnen, Herbert Creecy, Howard Finster, Ruth Laxson, and Nellie Mae Rowe.

As a whole, the tour will run for 14 months across Georgia in the following communities: Gainesville, Monroe, Currahee, Summerville, Tallapoosa, Jonesboro, Dublin, Tifton, and Kingsland. These were selected through a process of application, which focused on strong local collaboration between a downtown development authority and a local arts entity. Media represented in the Collection include: painting, pottery/ceramics, fiber art, sculpture, photography, traditional arts, jewelry, and works on paper.
